Abstract

This article is situated within product life-cycle management and aimed to analyze the importance users assign to the technical specifications of different iPhone models and the impact of their evolution on the devices’ usage cycle. The method combined a case study of the product line, with documentary analysis of five generations, and a descriptive survey applied to 142 users. The battery was the most valued specification, with a mean of 4.77 on a five-point scale and the lowest dispersion, and colour options the least valued. The main replacement reasons were battery health, lack of system updates and camera improvement. The rank correlation between perceived importance and replacement reasons is high (ρ = 0.839), supporting the link between perception and replacement behaviour. The average usage cycle was 2.83 years, longer than the market average. Principal component analysis did not reproduce the theoretical design categories, and the age gradient proved robust only for repairability and contactless payment.
