This study aimed to develop a method for applying modularization in product design within a furniture company located in southern Brazil. The research was based on the Design Science Research (DSR) approach, due to its applied nature and focus on solving real-world problems. The proposed method was structured using the Modular Function Deployment (MFD), Design Structure Matrix (DSM), and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, integrated into the company’s product developme nt process. To validate the approach, a pilot test was carried out through the development of a new line of modular wardrobes. The results showed that the combined application of these tools led to significant improvements in standardization, traceability, and reduction of rework, as well as greater design flexibility and a broader product variety. It was also observed that modularization favored mass customization and integration among the engineering, design, and manufacturing departments. The main challenges identified included the initial reconfiguration costs and the need for cultural and organizational change. The study contributed a practical and replicable method for adopting modularization in the furniture industry, enhancing competitiveness and production efficiency.
